The opening ceremonies of the 37th Annual AAU Girls' National Volleyball Championship were held, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. 1100 plus teams were in attendance from across the country, including Puerto Rico and as far away as Alaska and Hawaii. AAU Volleyball National Chair, Dr. Roger Goudy, accompanied by Disney's Goofy character, took the stage and greeted all athletes, coaches, parents and fans with a warm and gracious welcome. To mark the opening of the two week long games, the Official Torch of the 2010 Girls' Junior National Volleyball Championships, carried by a player from Hawaii, was lit within the stadium in front of the standing room only crowd. Besides Goofy, in attendance were Mickey and Minnie Mouse, who welcomed athletes and showed the crowd their dancing skills. The Jamminatiors were also there, making the stands rock with energy and thrills, as they played their drums made of trash bins.
