rickseedman.com This is the 3rd match of the day for gold medal. This one has a story behind it! No-gi doesn't go by belt. You have to enter yourself in the right division by how long you been training. Pretty much the honors system. Intermediate is for 1-3 years experience. So I tied up with this guy and right away felt he was on a different level than the other two matches. He controlled me the entire match. I fought out of every submission attempt and with 10 seconds left he tapped me with an americana. The arm triangle choke was over my chin, thats why it didn't get me but it felt like my jaw was going to break. The next day the person I was training with for this tournament Howard saw the picture of us on the medal stand and said "this guy is not intermediate! I know him I rolled with him, he trains at Renzo's, hes a purple belt. Hes been training for 8 years! Its a stalemate when I roll with him!" He was a ringer! The way I see it is I held my own against a purple belt training for 8 years when this was only my 8th month of grappling! I feel fine about this loss.

This is my first ever BJJ match after training 2 1/2 months at Ralph Gracie OC. It's not pretty but I'm just happy I came out with the win. I feel like I couldve done better but I had to wait almost 8 hours before my match and the guy I rolled with has been training twice as long as I have... Its all about the experience though
