The raw video of me getting nailed by my pole when I took off too far inside and was running waaaay too fast. It's pretty funny and it left a very noticeable, painful and distinct bruise on my stomach for days. Enjoy! -Ant Pole Vaulting Hurts |

BRYAN CLAY, TREY HARDEE and TOM PAPPAS in slow motion during the Pole Vault event on the second day of competition of the US Decathlon during the United States Olympic Trials in Eugene. Pappas easily gets over 17' 3/4" and could have gone at least 4" higher even with a plant that is a little off the top of his head and the lower arm not extended. The NBC Sports team of Tom Hammond, Ato Boldon, Carol Lewis, Lewis Johnson and Ed Eyestone are helping out with the great Dwight Stones handling the field events with all of his experience! I put this together to help teach young vaulters the proper pole vaulting mechanics needed to become a successful Pole Vaulter. It features a 15 foot vault by Mary Sauer. Mary, if you see this and have a problem ... please contact me and I will take it off. I used your vault because I love your vaults. High School athletes can relate more to a 15' vault more than a 17' or 18' vault. Pole Vaulting - Made to look e |
some differents videoclips of Sergey Bubka. The World one in pole vault! (made by Axel Frisén) Sergej Bubka |
This is from 1978. My Dad was filming me vaulting in an invitational. It was filmed with a movie camera back then. I believe this vaulter is from Brookfield Central. I vaulted for Greendale. I don't know the vaulters name. He was very good, and had a wild aggressive run. His take-off on this vault was way out (like Bubka) and his Cata-Pole sent him flying right. The Bar was at 12' 6". I believe he broke his collar bone and dislocated his shoulder besides being knocked unconscious. I always wanted to find him and let him know I had this film. Now with youtube- maybe he'll see it and recognize himself. Maybe someone in Wisconsin who vaulted in the late 70's remembers him. Then again ... Maybe he wouldn't want to see it. This is Steven Brand of Wisconsin Lutheran High School. This is from 2007, his Freshman year. Steve had several injuries through most of the season. He had only jumped 9'6" in a meet thus far. He had a badly sprained ankle and got in the habit of going off his wrong(right)foot. I finally decided not to fight it and let him do it. I moved him up a pole and he PR'd 4 times in one meet. working out at the gym. Bubka's on Rings: these felt a lot more powerful than in the past so i'm happy about that. the only thing that i notcied, that except for maybe 1 or 2, i'm always "looking up" meaning, my head, and in turn, shoulders, never "drop back" all the way. Are my suspicians correct?? Not to say that i should "whip" my head back, but it should eventually come back, all the way, right?? Extensions on Rope: I really like this drill haha. the only thing i'm wondering about is: does this promote a "tuck to shoot" in my vault? NOW, because i feel this is more of a 'strength' exercise than a 'technique' exercise, i'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter, but I just want to make sure Is it possible to do this exercise, more like a swing to invert?? Rope Swings: Another drill that i like, but i think today, i was jumping a little far away from the rope (kinda like taking off, out haha). But i really liked the swinging motion in my trail-leg, so this exercise isn't going anywhere at the moment Hip Circle: this was just a warmup for what's next (i guess this is a...agility?? haha) Cast-Hip Circle to handstand: yea...i have to work on this haha. when i look at it on video, it wasn't that bad of an attempt haha. It was one of my first attempts, so i'll keep working on it and keep you posted haha Extensions on Floor: This is a fun drill. I really focused on pressing UP, as strait as i could and holding (which i did well on except for the second one) Bubka's on High Bar: I ... Drills at the Gym 3 |
Feel free to comment. I wish I was not so tired at this moon vault. In this video, I am applying techniques I learned from Alan Launder earlier that day. Acording to Mr. Launder, this shows a great run, carry, plant, and free take-off. See From Begginer to Bubka and Isinbayeva Too for more details on the Petrov model. Try to spot the things I did well, and the things i did not... *cough* swing trail-leg *cough* everything after the plant *cough* excuse me. Stats Me: 5'10"; 150 lbs. Pole: 14'7" 175 lbs.
