READ THIS FIRST There's a lot more tips that wouldn't fit into the montage that I'm going to put in here which will help maximise the stretches. Every stretch demo'd is shown very briefly, in reality warm up stretches need to be held for at least 10 seconds, and the actual stetches used to increase flex need to be held a minimum of 15 seconds (30-60 seconds would be best). This allows the muscles and brain time to work together to lengthen the muscle therefore increasing flexibility. THE WARM UP:This is very very important. No matter how flexible you are always warm up before stretching, and don't stretch cold muscles. In the straddle stretch, keep knees facing the roof, don't let them turn in. When doing reverse lunge do not sit your bottom on yours heels, keep it raised like demonstrated. Point and flex is great for warming up the ankles as well as working on the toe point. FRONT SPLITS: The section includes a lot of hamstring stetches. The aim is to keep the back as flat as possible, don't round it just to make it look like you're able to goo down further. The beam stretch uses a technique where you contract the muscles whilst they are stretched to the fullest, which causes the muscles fibers to lengthen. This technique can be used when your being pushed down for any stretch, simple push back against that force for around five seconds at a time. MIDDLE SPLITS: When doing the partner stretch, the two people pushing must have one foot at or above the knee and one around ... Want great splits? (Gymnastics |

Amid pollution, protests and impressive pomp and circumstance, the curtains rose Friday on the XXIX Summer Olympics in Beijing. The four-hour opening ceremony at the 91000-seat Bird's Nest stadium was a gaily colored extravaganza punctuated by fireworks and festivities, including a guy-in-the-sky lighting of the Olympic flame. Gymnast Li Ning, who won three gold medals for China in 1984, was lifted by wires for the spectacle. He circled the Bird's Nest once, gliding through the air like a spacewalker. Then he used the torch to light the massive Olympic caldron. The ceremony will be shown on TV Friday night in the United States. The anticipated crowd around the world may make this the most-watched television event ever. The event, directed by Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, drew on China's history and cultural heritage and displayed it all with high-tech wizardry. Fireworks, a Chinese invention, were set off in great waves, from within the Bird's Nest and from as far away as Tiananmen Square, several miles to the south. Country by country, athletes strolled around the stadium in hot, hazy weather. China's squad of more than 600 was led by NBA tower Yao Ming and a young boy who lived through the spring earthquake in Sichuan province. There were thousands of musicians and performers to delight the crowd. In Beijing, the long-anticipated day was greeted with joy and enthusiasm. Those lucky enough to secure tickets cheered long and hard for China's Olympic team, the last and ... Summer Olympics Open With A Ba |

Are the 2008 Chinese Olympic gymnasts underage? Maybe not. This gymnastics video is an excerpt from the documentary film "Dream Weavers 2008" (Zhu Meng 2008). It was the opening film of the 11th Shanghai Film Festival that ran from June 14-22, 2008. (Yes, the same film festival that actress Sharon Stone was banned from attending!) The documentary, which took director Gu Jun seven years to make, captures events leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and how various lives were affected by this major international event in China. [00:00] The video begins with a scene where Grandmother Guo Guilan is having one last New Year's eve dinner at home with her family. Her ancestral house, a place where her family has lived for three generations, will soon be demolished due to construction of Olympic Park. Very sad, but the scene was included only to establish the date, which is clearly shown in the first 4 seconds to be February 1, 2003. (Note: The documentary presented events in strict chronological order. Although not shown in this video, the next date that appears in the documentary is during the National Stadium design competition on the 3rd of March. One can therefore conclude with certainty that what appears in this video occurred sometime between February 1 and March 3, 2003.) [00:34] The scene switches to the training gymnasium of the National Olympic Team. [00:49] Narrator states that the girls are "eligible for international competitions at age sixteen." [00:51] The ...
