What's up y'all? This weekend I was blessed with the opportunity to speak with an up and coming Bay Area independent filmmaker. The person that I am referring to is Akanni Safo, or just "Safo" for short. Although his name can be simplified, rest assure that his talent, drive and passion for film making cannot. Safo currently resides in the Bay Area however is hometown roots stretch all the way back to "The Windy City," Chicago Illinois. Safo's story consists of a "Make It Happen" mentality. Not allowing himself to have the luxury of a negative thought, his work ethic and natural versatility has allowed him to transcend numerous barriers, to push beyond the invisible ceiling. The word "failure" simply does not occupy this man's vocabulary. Armed with a camera, desire, drive and a vision, Safo uses reality for inspiration and the big screen as his canvass to create his motion picture masterpiece. Safo offers a unique perspective in regards to what it takes to make it in the business. From "behind the scene" to "behind the camera," Safo enlightens us on his qualifications and experience with film. Coach Renard Safo demands boxing acumen from his fighters. After 10 rounds on the heavy bag Safo makes Terrell Gausha throw punches in bunches. Strong defensive skills coupled with a high punch volume is a must for success. Terrell has those attributes but he also has an innate ability to strike with halting body shots. In some cases, opponents get hit with a body shot and don't feel the effects until a moment later. The delayed reaction is painful for opponents and entertaining for fans. Among many of Terrell's strengths is his ability to execute the lost art of body punching. The old saying goes, "Attack the body and the head will follow". He breaks people down to the body and then scores at will to the head. Most contemporary amateur boxers simply go for head shots because they are concerned with the limited time but Terrell's body shots are so devastating that the effects pay off almost immediately.
