This is for those of us who either forgot, or never had the privilege of experiencing, the astronomical heights that Sang Lee soared in 3-cushion billiards.... At his own 1994 SL Open 3-cushion event in NYC, during a finals match against the very talented Louis Havermans, the great 3-cushion billiards master, Sang Lee unleashes two monster runs in the same match: scoring an astounding 29 3-cushion billiard points in a mere 2 innings. In classic Sang Lee "cool" style, an exquisitely controlled run of 15 followed several innings later by an equally mesmerizing 14 point run. At the end, he actually misses one of his favorite rail-ball-rail-rail-ball forms, a shot Sang usually scored with much ease. The rail-first shot as it lied was practically impossible for mere mortals to attempt in championship play - but it always helps to be the greatest rail-first player that ever lived. Much younger (and leaner) back then, I was the official for the match making all of those critical calls. ;) Actually, refereeing a billiard match is a great way to learn the game and precisely the reason why I took the job. I recall being rather hypnotized for most of Sang Lee's big runs - always a bit surprised when he missed (which wasn't that often). Deno Andrews adds the color on this Accu-Stats match along with Robert Byrne. Sang Lee: 29 pts in 2 innings |
"www.poolplayers.com - Dr. Cue Pool Lesson 12 Speed Defined With Controlled Practice - One of the most important concepts for developing excellence in your game is acquiring a "feel" for "speed control". The first step in this process is to define speed in terms of "table lengths" and focusing on slow and medium speeds, which are used for 70% of all shots and most "diamond system" applications. www.poolplayers.com - Dr. Cue Pool Lesson 7 Aiming (Cue Ball Travel Line) - Learning to shoot the cue ball in a straight line combines good preshot imagery with the knowledge of where the cue ball must end up in relation to the object ball. "Ghost ball" training, along with "straight" movements of the cue stick will produce simple, yet profound results of good aiming. APA Dr. Cue Instruction - Dr. |
www.poolplayers.com - Dr. Cue Pool Lesson 8 Cue Ball Control...Basic Cue Ball Effects - The use of "english" or "spin" on the vertical or horizontal axis of the cue ball should be dealt with very carefully. Hitting the cue ball in the center or with stop (slightly below center) are primary beginning points of "cue ball control". Follow is next in order to learn how to roll into position. I think this video is from the Valley Hall of Fame Dinner show. August 10th, 1991. It was produced by the Birkbeck "twins" who were Billiards International at the time. The place was the Williamson Restaurant in Horsham, PA. There was an exhibition by Mike Massey prior to the match. They didn't know if Mosconi was going to be able to compete because he had been severely ill and in the hospital. There is a tape of the whole match available through Accu-Stats. www.poolplayers.com - Dr. Cue Pool Lesson 10 Cue Ball Control...Lateral (side) Spin - The use of "lateral (side) spin" on the cue ball is an advanced technique usually reserved for top players. The cue ball takes on many control issues with "side" spin, plus effects of "squirt" and "curve" are learning steps to success. Understanding "side spin" is a challenge worth conquering.
