University of Vermont mens basketball senior Marqus Blakely won the 22nd annual State Farm College Slam Dunk Competition on Thursday night at the Indiana Convention Center. Blakely becomes the first Catamount to win the dunk contest, after he defeated Bradleys Chris Roberts in the final on ESPN. ESPN announcer Brad Nessler opened the show by picking Blakely to win the competition and the senior started off with a 360 in the first round to earn a 45 out of 50. In his second dunk in the first round Blakely had teammate Evan Fjeld start off with a dunk that he then picked out of the net and also slammed. The dunk earned him a perfect score of 50 as he ranked second going into the semifinals. It also came it at No. 3 on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10.

CLEARWATER — Even though it was the inaugural Pinellas County boys basketball private school all-star game, and there was one record that may never be broken. The North defeated the South 122-113 Saturday night in a contest where eight of the first nine buckets were 3-pointers. There were 19 3-point shots made in the first half, 11 more in the second half — 30 for the game. Eighteen players scored. Thirteen scored from 3-point range. "We knew we had good 3-point shooters on our team," said South MVP Tracy Parks of St. Petersburg Catholic. "We saw what it said in the newspaper about how we were projected to lose, so we were just trying to get up and down in the fast break." One of the more specific problems facing the South was the Calvary Christian's and North's MVP Christian Bibi Ndongo, who at 6 feet 7 can block shots by simply stretching his arms. "We knew about Bibi and blocking all those shots during the year, so we knew we had to get our outside shots, which we did, but it didn't last," said Parks, who had three 3-pointers. Ndongo led the North with 26 points, including three 3-pointers. "I enjoyed playing," he said. "I wish I could have done better. The most fun was playing with the other kids." Calvary Christian's Val Rogatkin had 25 points, including two 3-pointers, for the North. Parks scored a game-high 31. Game synopsis: Ohio Prep Stars game of the week: Centennial traveled to Northland and the Vikings showed why they are one of the top teams in state. From the opening tip Northland dominated as one of Ohio's top sophomores Jared Sullinger slammed one down. Northland jumped out to 28-4 in the first quarter, with just about every starting member having one or two dunks. Northland's defense was too much for Centennial to overcome, as they trailed at half 52-17. The second half was filled more steals, dunks and all-around team play from Northland, as they finished the game with 105 points.
